Barking & Dagenham Erkenwald Basketball Club

Match Report EMBL - Tuesday 21st January 2003
Erks 1 81 Erks 2 62

Victory was sweet last night for Coach Bailey's Erks 1 team as they avenged the early season loss to Erks 2. Even before the start the advantage seemed to be with Erks 1 since Erks 2 had only seven players available. The key man missing being guard Dave Passacantilli who had withdrawn earlier in the day. Coach McCusker filled this spot bringing in veteran Gary Glennard to make his first appearance in an Erks vest this year.

The first quarter was a close affair with both teams trading scores until the ninth minute when Erks 1 put on a 7 - 0 spurt to end it 18 - 12 in front. The second quarter was Erks 2's undoing though as they failed to look after the ball and after some very soft turnovers the momentum was with Erks 1 who ended the half with a comfortable 17 point lead.

In the third Erks 2 tightened up their defense and this in turn produced some offensive success. By the end of the period the difference between the teams was 13. Erks 1's lead however was never really threatened in the fourth and although Erks 2 clawed one more point back this was not enough as Erks 1 took the victory 81 - 62.

Craig Morris and Irfan Hussain top scored for Erks 1 scoring 36 and 18 (including 5 treys) points respectively. For Erks 2, player coach Declan McCusker contributed a season high 26.

Erks 2's next game is at home on Thursday 23rd January against Forest. Erks 1's next game is away against Lakers on Friday 31st January.
