Caister 2008 Report

So how did Erks get on at Caister this year? The full report is now available!

Phil Cooper Memorial Trophy

Southend Scorpions with the Phil Cooper Memorial Trophy

Southend Scorpions are the first recipients of the Phil Cooper Memorial Trophy that was presented to them by Nikki and Vikki (Phil's daughters) after their 83 - 79 win over Baddow Eagles 1 on May 5th.

The trophy was donated to the Essex Basketball League by Erks in memory of Phil Cooper. The competition was formerly known as the Senior Plate Div 1.

Phil Cooper

Erks are sad to announce the death on July 27th 2007 of Erks veteran Phil Cooper (aka "Coops").

Coops joined Erks many years ago and was a regular in the Essex & London Leagues, the Founders Cup, the Southern Regional League and also featured in the Erks National League team. Coops was also a regular team member at the annual Caister tournament, where he helped Erks to win on several occasions.

Since Coops stopped playing, he was still a regular supporter and regularly attended games.

Coops will be sadly missed by all at the club and our thoughts are with Phil's family at this very sad time.

Founder's Cup
No Founder's Cup for Erks

Winners of the Founder's Cup in 2005, Erks were unable to take part last year due to a lack of available (ie. non National League registered) players.

The situation remains the same this season, 2007-8, and again we will not be participating.

You can relive our previous Founder's Cup campaigns here.

Essex Metro League
Stars win EMBL Play Off Final
Following Stars' 79 - 90 win over Erks in the semi final, they went on to defeat Gintaras 105 - 91 in the Play Off final on April 22nd to show that they were the #1 team in EMBL this season.

Erks thrash Tigers
Twenty eight points from Declan McCusker led the Erks back to winning ways as their "second string" team easily defeated Eastbury Tigers 114 - 39 on Thursday 6th.

Gintaras proved too strong (again) at Erks on Thursday 28th and the visitors came away with a 71 - 75 point win.

Hainault Stars' rally in the final 3 minutes on Thursday 21st was enough to defeat Erks and put them in pole position for the EMBL Championship.

Twenty points from Mark Denchfield helped Erks defeat Cardinals 63 - 51 on Thursday 7th.

Following Erks' comfortable opening win against Tigers, their second game ended with a 69 - 74 loss against Forest.

EMBL now has a new website with information on all aspects of the League including participating teams, fixtures, scores, contacts and League tables.

EMBL Schedule
The new 2007/8 schedule will be posted up soon.
