Erks 68 Camden 62
|
Erks moved back to winning ways in the LMBL with a win over last year's
runners up. Garbage Time Dave Churches returned to the line up and led all
scorers with 26.
A scrappy start saw Nelson De Miranda get a "T" for arguing with the ref and
was duly substituted. Rela stepped in and had a strong game running the
point for the remaining 37 minutes. Camden started strong going out to a 10
- 2 lead but Erks rallied to draw level at 15 at the end of the first. Erks
continued to frustrate the visitors and the fouls stacked up with Erks
leading 33 - 27 at the break behind a strong first half from Garbage and
Martin Overare.
Camden switched to a zone at the start of the 3rd and duly fell behind by 17
points after 4 successive 3's by the Erks. By the fourth quarter, Camden
resorted to fouling continuously to stop the clock racking up 8 fouls in the
last 2 minutes. Erks held on for a 6 point win.
However, the game may best be remembered for the bizarre behaviour of now ex
Erk Nelson De Miranda. Following his "T", he once again ignored team talks
and huddles. He stormed up and down the bench lobbying for a return to the
game and when it became apparent his basketball was finished for the
evening, he got changed into his street clothes. He then joined a time out
at the start of the 4th to say good luck and good evening but was told in no
uncertain terms that it was goodbye.
Erks scorers: Declan 7, Martin 11, Steve Herd 3 (a 3 pointer off the
backboard), Fun Ed 5, Rela 11, Paul Hayden 5, Garbage 26, ex Erk Nelson 0.
Erks LMBL campaign now takes a rest until the new year when Erks host ULU on
14 January 2003.
