The Erks winning streak in the EMBL came to a halt Thursday night as they lost to the Cardinals 60 – 71. The Erks once again started off the game sluggish and the Cardinals took full advantage and held a 7 point lead after the first quarter. The second quarter proved no better for the home team. They could not find the bottom of the basket and fell further behind as the halftime score was 38 – 26.
After a motivational speech by coach McCusker at halftime, the Erks found their scoring rhythm and started to claw back. However, the Erks still had no answer for Cardinals big man Peltier as he battled his way to a game high 24 points and led his team to a win.
The Erks need to rebound from this loss quickly as they are traveling to Hainault to play the Stars on Sunday morning. The Erks are still at the top of the league fixture, but this loss means that the Erks must beat the Cardinals the next time they meet if they are to stay there.
Erk Scorers: Denchfield 17, Churches 11, Leclair 10, McCusker 9, Overare 6, Agbolegbe 2, Herd 2, Atkinson 2, French 1
