Erks opened their home account in the EMBL with a win over last season's league and play off double winners.
With ten players available against a 7 man Cardinals squad, this worked against Erks as various combinations could not find the rhythm available to get any momentum going. Once again, Tony Peltier had Garbage Time Dave in his pocket hitting 16 first half points as Cardinals led 39 - 36 at the half.
Erks started the third with their worst spell of the game as Cardinals' Seale hit a quick 7 points on his way to a game high 28 points and Erks trailed by 10. Coach McCusker halted the slide by switching to a zone, and by going with 5 senior players (McCusker, Garbage, the Guru, Scarlet & Mark Denchfield). Staying with this formation and squad for the remainder of the game proved decisive since Erks hit 30 fourth quarter points and, despite Perry Charles trying to take Garbage Time's nickname by hitting 9 points in the last minute, Erks held on for victory by 10.
Declan 4, Mark 24, the Guru 18 (yes 18), Scarlet 22, Garbage 8, BamBam 4, Lee Atkinson, Craig Pringle, Martin, Robin
K Seale 28, Tony Peltier 20 (almost all on Garbage - Garbage Time Dave - not Garbage Time Perry), Garbage Time Perry 13 (9 of which he hit when the game was over)
