Erkenwald 75 Scorpions 82

On a cold, stormy night in Dagenham, a disjointed-looking Erks made another slow start against their younger Saints opponents. Offensively, 8 points from late arriving, athletic Martin Overare and six speedy points from unathletic Steve 'Meatloaf' Carter - later replaced due to respiratory problems - together with a miserly defense, that restricted the Saints to 6 long range three pointers, saw the Erks trail by 2 at the half, 35-37.
The third quarter proved to be the home team's undoing since, despite trying several different line ups, they struggled to play as a cohesive team and only managed to add 9 points to their interval score during the whole third quarter.
Into the fourth quarter, down 63-47 with only 7 minutes remaining, Garbage-time Dave Churches lived up to his name and scored 19 last gasp points to bring his team to within 2 with less than a minute remaining. Unfortunately though this was not quite enough and, with seconds to go, the Saints players delivered the W from the charity stripe.
Erks scorers: Churches 34, Overare 15, Denchfield-Fowler 8, Meatloaf 6, Herd 6, Smith 2 (career high), Bose 2, Grewock 2, Bailey (25 whiplash inducing screens) 0 points, Simms, Powell
